Before you start
- A Google account you use for Google Tag Manager.
- Access to your Kajabi site settings, where you can add code to the site header.
- Your GA4 property, if you plan to send events to it.
Step 1: Create a container
- Sign in to Google Tag Manager and create an account.
- Create a container for the website, and choose the Web platform.
- Google shows two code snippets: one for the head and one for the body. Keep the page open.
Step 2: Add the code to Kajabi
- In Kajabi, open your site settings and find the area for custom code in the header. Menu names change between Kajabi versions, so search for "code" or "header" in the settings.
- Paste the head snippet inside the header code area.
- Paste the body snippet as the first thing in the body area, if Kajabi gives you a place for it. If not, the head snippet alone is enough to load Tag Manager.
- Save and publish the site.
Step 3: Check that it loads
Open your site in a private browser window. Click the Preview button in Google Tag Manager, enter your site address, and press Connect. The Tag Assistant panel should open on your page and show the container loaded. If it does not, check that the snippet was pasted in the header area and that the page was published.
Step 4: Add tags only after this works
Once the container loads, add one tag at a time, starting with GA4. Test each tag in Preview before you publish. Publishing a container with an untested tag can break tracking across the whole site.
Common mistakes
- Pasting the snippet in the page body instead of the header.
- Publishing the container before testing it in Preview.
- Installing Tag Manager twice, which sends each event twice.
